Phatties: An Ending, a Beginning, and a Surprise in Between

Eight years ago, we opened Phatties, a small spot with a lot of soul in Escondido, CA. But as many of you know, this story started way before 2017. Back in 2005, our mom was cooking out of our backyard, not knowing that one day her kids would take her flavors, her love, and her hustle, and turn it into a restaurant inspired by everything she taught us.

When we announced earlier this summer that Phatties would be closing, we were overwhelmed by your love. So many of you shared memories, stories, and heartfelt words about what this place has meant to you. And while we’ve been preparing for the next chapter, one thing has been impossible to ignore: the voices asking us not to close just yet.

✨ So here’s the surprise: Phatties is staying open a little longer, weekends only! ✨

We want to give Escondido and our community a final, more personal sit-down experience before transitioning into our next adventure. Think of it as Phatties distilled:

• Your favorite classics like our famous taquitos, the carne asada burrito, and our Querétaro enchiladas 🌮🌯🇲🇽

• Special new debuts like creamy poblano chilaquiles and for dessert, plátanos fritos con nieve 🍌🍨 all vegan, of course.

It’s a smaller menu, but it’s packed with heart, flavor, and the very best of what you’ve come to love.

⚠️ A quick heads up: since our POS system contracts have ended, we will be CASH ONLY for these final weekends. Please plan ahead so you don’t miss out. You can always check our menu on the website and send your order via text to 858-717-1637 for pickup or dine-in.

This is our way of saying thank you to every single person who’s begged us to stay a little longer. This one’s for you. 💕

Meanwhile, behind the scenes, we’re preparing something entirely new: an intimate, invite-only dining experience launching in the new year. Just 100–150 seats each weekend, where we’ll debut brand-new dishes inspired by regions like Oaxaca and Yucatán.

Always vegan, always made with love, but on a whole new level of creativity and connection.

Phatties has always been about more than food. It’s about family, culture, and possibility. And while the setting may change, that spirit will always carry forward.
